The Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program in Canada is a pathway for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency. This program is managed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and aims to provide an opportunity for families to reunite and live together in Canada.
Eligibility Requirements for Sponsoring Parents and Grandparents:
The sponsor must:
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have sufficient income to support the family members they intend to sponsor.
**And a few other factors that the sponsor should meet and not included here.
The Applicant- The parents and grandparents must:
- Meet medical, security, and other immigration criteria.
Application Process:
Expression of Interest (EOI):
Interested individuals must first fill out and submit an Expression of Interest form. This phase usually opens during specific periods.
Invitation to Apply (ITA):
After submitting the Expression of Interest form, if selected, they will receive an invitation to submit a complete application.
Submitting the Application:
Applicants must gather the necessary documents and submit their complete application along with the fees.
Application Review:
The applications are reviewed by IRCC, and if approved, the parents and grandparents will receive permanent residency.
Benefits of the Program:
Family Reunification: This program allows families to live together again, providing emotional and social support.
Permanent Residency: Parents and grandparents can obtain permanent residency in Canada and enjoy benefits such as healthcare and other social services.
Since 2020 IRCC has not opened the pool for interested sponsor to submit their Expression of Interest (EOIs) instead, it has been using the same pool to send invitations.
