Taking the oath of Citizenship at a citizenship ceremony is the final step to becoming a Canadian citizen.
Wait time for Canadian Citizenship ceremony invitation:
Every application is different. The wait time for each application is not the same and it depends on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) processing time.
If you received an invitation to attend the Citizenship ceremony and you can not attend the ceremony on that day, then you should contact IRCC and provide an explanation and the reason you can not attend.
How can I let IRCC know that I can not attend my citizenship ceremony?
On your notice to attend the ceremony, there is a contact information and an email address or you can use the online web form.
Your ceremony will be either in person or online.
What would be the language of my Canadian citizenship ceremony?
Your notice will tell you if your ceremony will be mostly in English, mostly in French, or bilingual. If you want to attend a bilingual ceremony, you should contact the office where you received your notice.
You should learn the Oath of Citizenship and sign the National Anthem of Canada so prepare to say the oath and sing the anthem.
When can I apply for my Canadian Passport?
Until you get your Canadian citizenship certificate and then your Canadian passport, you shouldn’t finalize any travel plans. You need to citizenship certificate to apply for a Canadian passport. You will receive your paper certificate at the ceremony. But you also need to wait a few days for the government to update their system that you are a Canadian and then apply for your Canadian passport.
